Saturday 30th June – Saturday 18th August:
The Jazz Centre UK is holding a seven-week exhibition to celebrate the contribution of women to the arts and crafts of jazz music and to encourage young female performers and commentators to step up and make their own contributions to our on-going culture.
‘Jazz Women’ is the second of our Jazz Centre UK events sponsored by Heritage Lottery Fund. Our exhibition includes 3 live events, a fine collection of books, periodicals, memorabilia, letters, art, posters and photography, and a varied season of films about women in jazz.
Come and join us for our live music events featuring premier jazz women and enjoy the fantastic displays in our exhibitions.

TINA MAY & ESTHER BENNETT – Sing “Duncan Lamont” at 606 Club London
Saxophonist and composer Duncan Lamont is one of Britain’s most venerated musicians, having performed with Henry Mancini, Benny Goodman, Gil Evans, Peggy Lee, Frank Sinatra,
Bing Crosby and Count Basie. In addition to his achievements as a performer he is also one of the UK’s most important contemporary jazz songwriters –
he received a Grammy nomination for soundtrack composition, published numerous song books and his songs have been recorded by the cream of singers (Cleo Laine, Mark Murphy, Norma Winstone, Richard Rodney Bennett, Natalie Cole…). In addition to all of that, he has been commissioned to write or arrange countless orchestral pieces, his saxophone compositions are used by the Associated Board of Music and, most importantly of all…he wrote the theme tunes to children’s TV series Mr Benn and Spot!
Tonight we will be honouring Duncan on the occasion of his 87th birthday in the company of two very fine singers, Esther Bennett and Tina May. Expect a lively atmosphere, plenty of fun and great music as we celebrate with Duncan in true 606 style!
